Her mask

Deep,exotic brown,
the mask lies motionless,
on her dresser.
Each morning,
she puts it on.
Her slender fingers,
caress it’s contours.
Slowly adjusting
the mahogany mask
into place.
It covers her face
and has small eye slits
to let the light in.
It’s strings carve into her,
from behind.
It’s weight burdens her,
The mask’s mouth,
always smiles.
No one knows,
whether she does.

An Open Letter to My Dog After the Birth of my First Child

Made me cry…

The Ugly Volvo

Dear Tig,

Here’s a list of things for which I want to apologize:

theuglyvolvo dog open letter 7

1.  I’m sorry for every time I loop your leash around the doorknob and hurriedly say, “Two minutes!  I’m going to take you outside in two minutes!”  Because I am not going to do that.  You know, as you watch me struggling to get the baby into the carrier, realizing that he’s not wearing socks and also that he’s just wet himself, that it is going to be closer to fifteen minutes.  Possibly 20 minutes.  Once in a while, forty minutes goes by and you sit, patiently waiting, attached to the door.  And I walk back into the living room to see you sitting there and yell, “Oh my god Tig, I completely forgot about you!”  And you very politely turn yourself so you’re facing the door, which is the dog way of saying, “I know you…

Love Evolves.

“Where did you guys meet?”
A simple question.
My heart stops.
My lips hesitate.
For a split moment,
shame prompts me to lie.
“Where exactly did we meet?”
How can I say the truth?
That our love,
was conceived,
was birthed,
was nurtured,
amidst algorithms.
That it saw the world,
through computer screens.
She will smile,
judging at heart,
our approach to love.
Only we will know,
how we held hands,
through touch interfaces
and keyboards.
She will smile,asking
“So you liked his photo?”
How did I love an image?
A single moment,
of frozen clarity?
Just as Prince Charming,
fell in love,
by looking through the glass box,
at Snow Whites beauty.
I answer her.
Gripping his arm tightly.
For now I know,
when I look at him,
that he is one to my zero
and that
Love evolves with time.

She screams,
tears streaming down her face.
His gloved hands join in pray
eight hour battle concludes.
Her first taste of victory.

She screams,
a smear of blood winks
as she masters the wheels.
The hard way
The boyish way

She screams
holding the pink card
in her trembling hands.
Happiness leads to sorrow
A lesson learnt,repeatedly.

She screams,
along with hundreds.
Scroll and freedom in hand
Eyes twinkling in delight
as flashes capture her joy.

She screams,
it fits her perfectly.
She looks a goddess in white
He smiles shyly at her beauty
Together forever,finally

She screams,
gripping the steel bars,
her knuckles turning white.
Pain climaxes into happiness.
Another lesson learnt

She screams,
“Joey,get off the net. Now!”
Minutes turn into years.
Limbs lengthen,hairs gray.
They are alone once again.

She screams,
They are taking him away.
Her tired,old heart,well used
cannot bare the pain.
She too,is taken away.

She screams,
but this time it’s much younger.
Was it her daughter?
Her grand daughter?
No one sees. No one knows.
